Havana's weekly soul/funk night Sophisticated Mama has an extraordinary lineup of heavy hitters appearing tonight. New York DJ Monk-One (Wax Poetics writer Andrew Mason) headlines, with support from local crate-digger hero Supreme La Rock, Northwest fixture and Ubiquity Records artist Ohmega Watts, and resident Sophisticated Mama DJ Nitty Gritty. These guys only play original 45s from the late '60s and early '70s (the pinnacle period of soul and funk) and their combined experience of moving people—in all senses of the word—with their records totals several decades.

Monk-One (no relation to Jake One or BeanOne) will be spinning 45s like the one below at this free party.
