Slog got all excited about the idea of powdered alcohol yesterday, but it seems like we popped the corks on the powdered champagne bottles a little too soon. CNN's Logan Whiteside says:

The Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau approved Palcohol's powdered vodka, rum, and other cocktails "in error," Tom Hogue, the agency's director of congressional and public affairs, said in an email. The agency has not responded to any further questions.

The company that makes Palcohol โ€” Tempe, Ariz.-based Lipsmark LLC โ€” said that "there seemed to be a discrepancy [about] how much powder" is in the packets, which are meant to be mixed with water.

Is Palcohol going to go on the shelf of Dream Beverages, between the FourLoko and the Coca-Cola made with actual cocaine? Only the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau knows for sure.
