Syria Sets Date for Presidential Election: The parliament speaker has announced that the election will be held on June 3. President Bashar al-Assad is expected to seek a third term. Says CBS News, "The announcement came just hours after a pair of mortar shells struck some 320 feet from the parliament building in central Damascus, killing five people, according to state TV." Meanwhile, French president François Hollande is accusing Assad of continuing to use chemical weapons in recent days.
