(Neptune) Kid Ink has achieved something increasingly rare in the blog-centric regional rap game, attaining something close to genuine stardom. While he’s not quite a household name the way Future’s becoming (and his biggest song to date has asshole-in-chief Chris Brown as a feature), Ink’s club-capable brand of svelte party rap makes an agreeable soundtrack for an evening spending far too much money and getting a little too turned up. Dexterous production by current scene stalwart DJ Mustard elevates Ink’s smooth-dude flow as he bounces over bottom-heavy squiggly synths and flickering hi-hats, in a sort of fur-lined vision of hyphy. Aspiring rappers take note: This sound’s a pretty sure-fire way to get your YouTube channel into million-views territory. With King Los and Bizzy Crook.
