- ORPHANED SPACE Under the I-5
A man alleged to have "an extensive criminal history" was assaulted, but refused to cooperate with an investigation, receive first aid, or get any help from the police.
The suspect got into a fight with the victim because he may have disrespected his wife, but claimed to have aggravated an old injury on his hand instead of reporting the new one.
This incident happened under the I-5 in an area an urban theorist such as myself might call an orphaned space—space that is at once in the city, but not a part of the city's economy, property values, or ethos. Urban highways are notorious for producing orphaned spaces.
The victim did not press charges, and the suspect was eventually treated by the Seattle Fire Department, and later transported to Harborview Medical Center for further treatment.
