I know there is A LOT going on tonight, it IS Saturday, but if you're thinking about diggin' a local music showcase, Big Freak Media Circus will have you covered. This lineup is a solid and MIXED batch of sounds; in fact, this mixed bill reminds me of the olden days when most shows were rarely homogenized.

So, exactly what is Big Freak bringin'? Openers Hellbat play crazed early-'80s, screaming no-fi punk which teeters toward DIY sounds, thanks to their busy keyboard action. Hellbat will be followed by Mr. Barry Uhl, and from what I've heard, he'll will be bringing the contemporary pop sounds: shimmering songwriter stuff—think Paul McCartney-style whimsy. Pop like this should be interesting in a club setting; I'd reckon arrangements of his size could easily fit the expanse of say, the Moore Theater. Next Jared Cortese, member of the Jesus Rehab, a noisy two-piece, is playing solo tonight. And from what I can tell his jams are gonna be the evening's wild card, 'cause I ain't heard his particular noise nowhere. GOD ONLY KNOWS WHAT HE MIGHT DO! Second to last will be Mutiny Mutiny. This group is prolly the best known of tonight's bill, like, because they we're Megan Seling's favorite band in 2012, AND they've also just released their second LP, Don't Quit Your Day Job. They remind me of the better end of late-'90s indie rock: lots of melody, tense arrangements, and a dose of anger. Headliners Kid Leather is Atomic Bride's Chris Cool's side project; they're a trio consisting of Cool plus brothers Jesse and Eli Heminger. They play early-'90s AmRep label style heavy noise and they're good.

Goddamn, if THAT ain't one full bill. The show kicks off @ the 2 Bit Saloon in Ballard—9 pm with $6 entry. Get there on time 'cause NONE of these bands should be missed.
