Food Banks in Mudslide Area Need Your Help

Posted by on Thu, Mar 27, 2014 at 8:19 AM

The shelves are bare at food banks in the Oso, Arlington, and Darrington area. If you're on the Eastside this morning, you can drop off donations at the Issaquah Food and Clothing Bank—they're filling up a donated rental truck from 9 a.m. to noon.

toilet paper
energy bars
baby food
peanut butter and jelly
warm jackets and waterproof clothing
juice packs for kids
canned tuna & chicken, soup, fruit, veggies
granola bars
shelf-stable milk
toiletries (toothpaste, toothbrushes, shampoo, soap, toilet paper)

More ways to donate are here—and you can text REDCROSS to 90999 right now to donate $10$25. And UPDATE: You can donate to the United Way fund for the area too.

FYI, I just tried donating $10 to Red Cross and their auto-response said I was donating $25.

Hmm, I don't really trust the Red Cross, and @1's experience seems to confirm my mistrust. I don't need to have $23 of my $10 donation going to administrators' bonuses and anther $1.50 of it going to public relations.

And what's Jen going to do about it? You call up the Red Cross to complain that you got charged an extra $15 and you come across sounding like a total asshole.

Rather than looking for excuses not to give money, how about 30 seconds of research? 90.7 of the money the Red Cross receives goes to the products and services they deliver.

And the evil that men do lives after them, so we've heard, and so it goes, too, with Elizabeth Dole.

Thanks for the post update with the other option, as well as the original Snohomish County link, BJC.

I just went to the Snohomish County United Way donation page and it was super easy - the automatic default for donations was for the mudslide
