Here we have famed producer, ex-Dixie Flyer, solo artist, and all around HEAVY motherfucker Jim Dickinson in his Captain Memphis persona, explaining punk rock for (I think) local Memphis TV. The feature is called Captain Memphis Meets The Klitz. It's cool; just dig the opening quote: "Punk rock is Eric Burdon on the Ed Sullivan show." Um... FUCK YEAH! Also take note there are no mohawks—it's just '70s punters and their feathered helmet hair, dodgy mustaches, and flares!

To today's kids it might seem silly (sigh), but when "punk" first emerged in the '70s, as Dickinson explains, it was regarded as a return to the early days of rock and roll when rock and roll was a confrontational cultural revolution.

Oh... and while I've got y'all's ears on Dickinson (his pedigree goes DEEP—all of Atlantic Records, Stones, AND the Groovies) check out his singing and piano playing on this Jesters 45 "Cadillac Man" b/w "My Baby" (Sun, 1966) as this alone would'a been enough to cement my respect for him.
