Whoah! Have you seen this sucker yet? Go look. Go through a couple pages.
I bet you'll laugh. No wait, maybe you won't... Uh, let's have a poll!

You know what else is totally Seattle? Anonymously bitching about other people behind their backs. Asshole.

Wow, making fun of people because their appearance doesn't please you, sure doesn't make you an arrogant, juvenile, moronic asshole or anything. Sorry Vice wouldn't approve your internship so you came to Seattle instead, now please move back to California and cry about it there.

It's not so much the clothing as the body types involved that make this feel mean-spirited.
A true "bad fashion tumblr" would be less corporeal and more sartorial.

@8: Well said. The site is lame more because it doesn't really ridicule bad fashion, and verges into "ugly people of Seattle", which is just mean. There is enough terrible fashion in this city to do it right.

@20, Beyond the basics of protection from the elements, ones clothing is for the benefit of others as well. But I guess that's the problem with Seattle…nobody realizes that and just throws on whatever happens to be on the floor in front of them.
Seattle is the sweatpants of this country. …but then again, at least we're not the jean shorts and cowboy boots of this country.

@20 I think a lot of people represented on the blog dress for others- just not you.
I saw a few of my friends in the nerdy/roleplaying community on the site, wearing outfits I really appreciate and would consider swiping elements of for my own. For goodness sakes, the poster took a picture of a woman in a comic shop and makes fun of her for her unicorn outfit.
Talk about mean spirited.

This tumblr is stupid. It's only making fun of "Seattle fashion" when it talks about the long haired programmer types and the socks-and-sandals crowd (which, by the way, I love. And you can have them when you pry them from my cold, dead fingers... or something). Otherwise, it's making fun of fat people, old people, hippie types, and the weird kids. News flash- every city has those.

This person is the suck! Publicly posting photos of people, without their permission just to be a dick is awful. It makes me sad. A few of my favorite Seattle creatives are on there. I love crazy fashion. If anything, Seattle's kind of boring that way. Those people should be celebrated not shamed. I hope this person is outed and gets what they deserve. Also, Love that it's anonymous. Classy.

When it's not cruel, it's boring. Sure, take a photo of a person on the bus to Wallingford wearing a cross fit toe sneaker and an Utillakilt and blog bitchy about it. Knock yourself out. Taking photos in the same area of the same kind of fashion "offense" is just harassment. Crocs? Worn everywhere. Overweight people wearing pants and sandals? As long as they don't have a God Hates Fags sign on their clothes it's an insult to your eyeballs.

Leave Purple Mark alone, and
@18 Um, Kelly O is the sweetest lover and supporters of freaks ever, also, her photos are taken openly and WITH PERMISSION. As a maybe 2 time Drunk of The Week? (Does being in the background count?) I can say that she would never use a photograph to shame you.

Whoever this person is should redeem themselves by posting a photoshoot of them in replica outfits, just to show a little respect for their subjects.

I would bet most Slog readers don't find making fun of people largely for being heavy, or wearing unusual clothing, particularly humorous. In fact, I don't think "humor" is even the right word for it. It's just dumb and cruel.

This blog makes me think of last Saturday in Belltown on 3rd by the dog park - a middle-aged yuppie (change that to "muppie") woman was going up to a woman who looked like she might be homeless, then to an African American man, and the man accompanying was taking photos of her leaning in next to each of them, big smile, thumbs up. This truly obnoxious couple had a small child with them - perfect, so they can train the next generation to be just like them. Just another sightseeing tour of Belltown for them to laugh about later.

@76: It's lacking in wit to go with the cruelty. They're not even interestingly bad, just nerds and dingy dressers along with the mild steampunk outcasts. This is not "bad," and it's not "fashion." It's just Seattle.

I grew up in Seattle (late 70's/early 80's, jeans t-shirts & flannel), and when I went to college on the east coast I got pretty much equal amounts of ridicule and admiration for dressing like I didn't give a shit what people thought. (I didn't wear costumes or anything, just clothes I liked that were comfortable.) My response to either was, "but why should I give a shit what people think?" I honestly didn't get it, and still don't.

@80 People of Walmart is more mean-spirited, although at least most of the outfits on POWM are genuinely spectacular in their badness. This blog seems to be dominated by the ordinary fare of the not-so-fashion-conscious. (What did the longhair guy eating breakfast in a standard-issue t-shirt and jeans do to merit a call to the fashion police?)

Actually, the Do's and Don'ts in Vice are way worse than either of those. Sometimes I get sucked into reading them and it's like looking to the rotten core of a civilization in moral decay.

People do not come to Seattle in the hopes of using the streets as a runway. People also do not come to Seattle in the hopes that other newcomers to Seattle will expect them to be their friends right away. Dress however you like, just don't expect that anyone else is under any obligation to dig your style or complete lack thereof. This isn't kindergarten where any scrawling you do goes up on the fridge as art. Fashion is very much a form of communication and you should be aware of what you're saying.

Yes - fashion is a form of social communication. When someone where's a utilikilt and and top hat, they are signalling their interests and priorities to like-minded people.

If you are "judging" them for that, then I judge you to be a dick.

When you start going into other people's soical spaces and taking their pictures in order to mock them (like a comic shop with a gaming area on cap hill), you are violating that space.
