The Numbers Behind Two Ferns

Posted by on Wed, Mar 12, 2014 at 6:00 AM

Obamacare needs more people:

Almost a million people signed up last month for private health insurance under the Affordable Care Act, federal officials said Tuesday, bringing the total to date to 4.2 million but leaving the Obama administration well short of its original goal, with less than a month to go before the end of the open enrollment period.

In particular, Obamacare needs Ferns people. About 1.3 million of those already signed up are in the 55 to 64 age bracket. Only 1.1 million of those already signed up are 18 - 34.

Some 7 million people watched Obama's sit-down with Zach Galifianakis, and there was a spike in traffic to yesterday. But, to get the pool better balanced a lot of those visitors need to actually sign up. Nineteen more days to go before open enrollment closes...

In case anyone who hasn't signed up yet doesn't know what this "open enrollment" business is and why they should care, here's the info:…

In short, if you want coverage in 2014 you only have until March 31 to get signed up, otherwise you have to wait until the next open enrollment period which starts Nov. 15. There are a few exceptions; if you experience a "qualifying life event" such as loss of current health insurance, marriage/divorce, birth of a child, etc. you're allowed to sign up within 60 days following the event.

The big problem is that the website, ours at least, still sucks. Are people who are familiar with the net going to fight through the byzantine design. Are they going to call for help? Or will the two ferns impulse fade when they don't get instant satisfaction?
