Here are some things coming up in Seattle in the next few days that you could try to squeeze in when you're not being rained on or working.

1. I will be trying to catch the screening of The Past at SIFF Cinema Uptown tonight at 6:30 pm, a new film from the director of 2011’s A Separation. Here's the trailer:

2. Dave Barry is reading tonight at Town Hall. I recommend reading Paul’s reaction to the fact of a Dave Barry reading.

3. On Wednesday, Ryan Boudinot is pitching his bid to have Seattle recognized as a UNESCO City of Literature. Paul Constant claims that this title will have some significance beyond its symbolic value, in spite of being part of a United Nations program, so this may be our last chance to stop him and save our city from being overrun with “literary types.” Wouldn’t you rather be a UNESCO City of Gastronomy?! Let your voice be heard! We can’t eat books, Ryan! The event is at Town Hall at 7:30 pm.

4. On Thursday, it's the Capitol Hill art walk, featuring, among other things, an opening at Photographic Center Northwest for a show entitled Process, featuring work that focuses on the evolving processes by which we create photographic images. The film, the dark room, all that acid or peroxide or whatever it is in those trays, hanging the prints with clothespins, the weird red light of the room, the image that slowly emerges as they drip dry (oh wow, look, it’s the murderer’s face). It's a process! And this show is about playing with that process.

Thursday’s reception at PCNW is from 6 pm-8 pm. And check out our entire arts calendar for more recommended events.

5. Maged Zaher, Peter Mountford, and Jane Hodge will read at Office Nomads this Thursday at 6:30 pm. Office Nomads is a coworking space. Although these have existed for a several years, I’ve only known about the concept for six months or so. It’s basically like instead of being paid to go to work, you pay to go to work? Coffee and doughnuts will be provided at this event, but they’re hopefully always readily available at this office where people pay to be.

And what's everyone else around the office doing this week?

Katie Allison: "I'm eating a motherfucking steak dinner, that's what.”

Bethany Jean Clement: "I'm having dinner at Spinasse.”

Kyle Fleck: “I'm putting together a guest list for my wedding.”

Christopher Frizzelle: "I'm seeing opening night of Little Shop of Horrors."

Emily Nokes: "I'm in LA right now getting tacos in the sunshine. Everyone here looks a little thirsty and everything is beige. Tonight I'll be in San Diego, and the following day, I'll be in Tucson at a gnarly warehouse full of sweet crusties. The day after that we are driving to Austin for South By Southwest. The 89-cent tacos there are already in my dreams. I am actually too hot right now, and I brought a lot of sweaters on tour. I just remembered why Seattle is awesome: pants. Shorts are overrated."
