Q Nightclub’s Dial Up weekly gets bass-y and dreamy tonight with LA’s Total Freedom (aka Ashland Mines). Co-runner of Night Slugs’ sister label Fade to Mind and instigator of the Wildness parties, Total Freedom has a special touch with immersing modern R&B into diaphanous swathes of synths and low frequencies. Austin, Texas’ Mike G—who’s recorded for Ill Cosby’s Car Crash Set, among other labels—proffers a more kinetic, splenetic style of bass music, a kind of fractured, Cubist drum ’n’ bass, with beats as explosive as tank artillery. Seattle’s Korma is a newly signed to Alex Ruder’s Hush Hush imprint. His debut release is the Bootlegs album offers bruised-bass remixes of songs by Kelis, Cassie, Destiny’s Child, Ciara, and other R&B stars. With and DJAO and D’Nelski. More info here.
