Meanwhile, up in the U District, they're burning couches:

Yeah, probably best to intervene and bring things to a close once the fires start. At a bare minimum, who among the people burning the furniture plans to wait until the flames die and haul away the ash and metal parts? Ergo, time for an intervention.

Wait, you mean the pigs do break up peaceful street demonstrations that aren't organized by anarchists? But why would they do that? It makes no sense! False flag! Cointelpro!

Yep, 47th & 19th. When all this is over, I'm sure the poors will get blamed instead of the rich spoiled brats in frats.

@6

Yes, yes, it is always The Other that is doing the problematic behaviors in public demonstrations. It's never the Us, the We, it's always the Thems.

Didn't you just hate it when all those foreign Oregonian anarchists came up to Seattle in May 2011 and did those things that most of the people living in Seattle really didn't like at all? Gosh, that was just horrible, wasn't it?

I can still hear them going strong downtown. It's kind of marvelous. I've never been so determinedly enthusiastic about anything in my entire life. Good for them!

2, 8, how dumb do you have to be to try and compare frat boys after a super bowl win with political demonstrations that include self-proclaimed anarchists? You're really out-douching the nozzle tonight.

There were also hundreds of people in the udist just marching around and not causing any problems at all. I walked about 5 miles with them earlier. Up and down the Ave and various other streets. Merriment. Drivers were being high fived, drivers were honking. Dancing on (willing) cars, etc. There were no fires or destruction. There is more to the udist than stupid frat row.

@10

I'm responding to this guy (and to delerian, whose comment history is well known, even if he/she tries to hide it via account settings). And I think it's awfully fun.

You like fun, right?

Somebody got shot on the waterfront near Pioneer Square, according to SFD's Twitter feed. At least they say it's non-life threatening.

@12: I set my account to private to make it harder for stalkers. If you want to stalk me, you can, but you will have to work at it.

I didn't respond to your post because it didn't have a compelling argument. You are conflating events in a haphazard way and basically assuming people will understand how you link them. I didn't make an argument about the 2011 violence, nor would I because that would be absurd. I am making the point that while most of Seattle is peaceful and jubilant, it is the rich shits that are burning couches.

And what do you think is awfully fun? To sound creepy as fuck?

@3 CO2 is no biggie from a bonfire. OTOH, hydrogen cyanide and formaldehyde from the burning polyurethane foam, and god-knows-what from the various other components and synthetic cloth, isn't healthy, even for idiot frat boys.

Hey, RS. Lighting fires in the street and dancing around IS fun, and dangerous, that's why people do it, from drunk frat kids to blakblok punks. I would note a marked lack of flash bangs and pepper spray applied liberally by the SPD in crowd control, no high ranking deputies running in to collar photographers, a bit of well coordinated, highly restrained police and firefighter work, just like it's supposed to be. It seems some people have learned from the events of '11, how 'bout you?

Well this thread went to a goofy place rather quickly.

Won't anyone remember the massive, 4-hour street parties on Cap Hill, UDist, & marching around downtown when Obama got elected the first time? The cops just stood by for that one too. Rather civil of them.

Afterwards, the people cleaned up after themselves and the streets were FAR less of a mess than Cap Hill was this morning.

Cripes, Sportsfans!, where's your sense of responsibility and civic pride? Pick up yer trash.
