Mount Rainier (Ahem, Tahoma) Is Renamed Mount Seattle Seahawks by State Legislature

Posted by on Fri, Jan 31, 2014 at 2:10 PM

Mmkay, chill it out. The News Tribune in Tacoma also reports:

The measure also says the state Legislature is asking the U.S. Department of Interior to rename Mount Rainier National Park to “12th Man National Park.” No word on whether Interior Secretary Sally Jewell, former head of Recreational Equipment Inc., will approve the temporary name change.

Christ, I'm surprised they didn't just rename the whole friggin' state while they were at it.

At what point do we declare that all this fan-frenzy has gone too far? Seriously, you'd think no WA-based sportsball group had ever been in a championship game before now.

The loudest mountain in all 50 states!

Well, at least when it erupts and hurls flaming ash at us.

Then it will be.

Stupid of them to wait till Friday to ask her.

As for the renaming, what is the potential cost of making this change? Yes, I know that no one is going to change any freeway signs, but does the state technically have a legal obligation at this point to change the signs? Could someone sue the state for driving to Seattle when they wanted to go to Mount Seattle Seahawks?

They only change the names for Sunday so no signs need to be adjusted. This is the stupidest fucking thing ever.

Fuck that, please get the stupid game over so we can get back to our normal lives and clothing colors. Win or lose everyone's going to forget about the Seahawks again in a month.

Yeah, I caught that part in the linked article that it's only for the weekend. So of course no one is going to change anything. But I wonder if they are technically, legally obligated to make the change that they're not going to do. (I guess the law might "require" the process to start by the next business day, so they sidestep any actual requirement.)

Just for Sunday I propose we change the Washington State Legislature's name to Dirty Sack of Diseased Dicks National Park.

Calm the hell down people its just for fun. And if you dont understand the reason people are acting like kids at Christmas, go to a Hawks game next year and catch the illness we call fandom. Never had so much fun being sick!
