Free, Open Culture

Posted by on Tue, Jan 28, 2014 at 11:42 AM

Open Culture is a site that directs you to all manner of content you can get for free.

We're talking ebooks, audio books, textbooks, online courses, language lessons, kids' stuff, and movies. You can study thermodynamics, marine megafauna, Scandinavian film and television, robots, drugs and addiction, cryptography, and archaeology.

You can watch silent movies by Andy Warhol, Wes Anderson's first short, a biopic on Caravaggio, Rashomon, Orson Welles' Nazi-hunter movie The Stranger, and Sex Madness, the movie that is to sex what Reefer Madness is to pot.

Just as an addition - the Seattle Public Library offers thousands of e-books, audio books, music, movies through the Overdrive App (can use on your computer, smartphone, tablet, etc). All you need is a library card.

open culture USED to have a GREAT app that i would use on my phone and ipad - and then all of a sudden one day it just stopped working at 90% of the content they had listed, but no communication regarding discontinuation of the app or anything.

thanks for mentioning it here - glad i can still access it via their site!
