Ted Cruz, Who Shut Down the Government, Says "I Don't Think We Should Ever Shut Down the Government"

Posted by on Mon, Jan 27, 2014 at 12:12 PM

For a while there, Ted Cruz was the Great Republican Hope. That moment has passed. Cruz's decision to push the government into a shutdown ruined him for pretty much everyone but hardcore Teabaggers. Now, Cruz is reduced to arguing with Bob Schieffer about whether he actually shut the government down or not. When Schieffer refuses to swallow Cruz's line, and after he actually laughs at Cruz for being such a dimwit, Cruz accuses Schieffer of being a shill for President Obama.

This is what an ineffectual politician looks like:

Ted Cruz reminds me of Martin Sheen's character in The Dead Zone.

Clearly, Republicans realize they have so completely fucked up their responsibilities, that there is a full court press to rewrite their fuck up by the elections. Obama should give them all the rope they need to finish hanging themselves.

I'd love to have had him actually challenge what Cruz said, rather than just laughing. Reject the premise of his question "should we just raise the debt ceiling", point out that that's a tested question, and ask a more realistic question.

Yes, Ted, it was the President who shut down the government. Because Democrats hate the government, and Republicans love the government. I think it's great when smart people get so smart that they make complete assholes out of themselves.

In other news, the NSA surveillance doesn't prevent terrorist attacks, trickle-down economics doesn't work, and the Bush presidency was one stupid, easily-preventable fuck-up after another.

Schieffer looks like the cat who swallowed the proverbial canary, abeit a slightly rancid, very sinewy canary.

Whereas Cruz looks like a sad trombone "WAH-Wah-wah-waaaah!" sound personified.

Bob Schieffer being one of the more conservative non-fringe newscasters, that's comedy.

(Seriously, Schieffer's CBS Radio commentaries for the last decade have been only slightly to the left of Paul Harvey...and suddenly he's a liberal tool? Yeah, right.)
