This surprising vision hangs in the gallery on the seventh floor at Cornish College of the Arts in South Lake Union. Here's a full view. The label says it's 40 1/2 by 71 inches, oil on panel, and part of a theater set. I wonder which show! Tobey, according to the label, was on the faculty at Cornish from 1924 to 1927, early days for the highly autodidactic but also formally educated artist (he went to the School of the Art Institute of Chicago). His first solo museum exhibition wouldn't be until 1935.
