We're facing a couple days' worth of amazing readings, including a glut of events tonight. I just wanted to tell you a little bit about what's going on.

At the Hugo House tonight, it's time for Cheap Wine and Poetry, the raucous reading series where wine is $1 a cup. Tonight's readers are Rauan Klassnik, Chelsea Kurnick, Amber Nelson, and Matt Gano. Of this lineup, I'm most familiar with Klassnik, who writes poems that are relentlessly dark and incredibly beautiful, and Nelson, who is the wizard behind Alice Blue Books. In other poetry news, beloved local poet Kate Lebo is also reading tonight at University Book Store. Lebo has written a book called A Commonplace Book of Pie, which is a collection of poems about pie. Both those readings are free.

And then we've got a couple of scientifically minded events going on tonight. Max Tegmark reads at Town Hall. His book Our Mathematical Universe is based on a "hypothesis that our physical reality is a mathematical structure, which leads to Tegmark's "theory of the ultimate multiverse." Also at Town Hall tonight is a reading for Uncharted: Big Data as a Lens on Human Culture, which is a book about using data from the internet to examine "trends in human history across the centuries" The description for this book introduced me to a new word: zettabytes. It's a number with 21 zeroes after it, and this year, the world will create five zezzabytes of data. Cool. Scary, but cool. (Both Town Hall readings are five bucks, which is a total steal.)

I don't know how you're going to decide between all those events. Tomorrow night, though, your choice should be clear: Pam Houston, the popular novelist, will be at Hugo House. The very popular author of Cowboys Are My Weakness will give a lecture on writing dialogue. I've seen Houston read before, and her dialogue, especially when read aloud, is a real treat. This event will be followed by a Q&A between Houston and local yoga memoirist Suzanne Morrison.

But that's not all. Go visit the readings calendar for more details about all the other events happening tonight and through the weekend.
