A Satellite Photo of the Largest Syrian Refugee Camp

Posted by on Thu, Jan 23, 2014 at 7:57 AM

It's in Jordan and the home of 120,000 humans.

For three years, the war (the long winter of the Arab Spring) has claimed thousands upon thousands of lives and displaced 5 million humans. There will be no happy ending here.

Good Morning Charles,
Yes, that photo is most somber. Agree, the ending of that refuge probably won't be happy. So many have been displaced. And, the bloodbath in Syria will not end any time soon. Especially if yesterday's attempted and acrimonious 1st round of "peace" talks are any indication. I also just read that there is now evidence of torture being used in that tragic civil war. It is a most unfortunate situation.

For three years, the war...
it's important for us doughnut chomping westerners to keep in mind that none of these middle east horrors have been going on for three, ten, or thirty years; they've been going on for more like three thousand years. that region is as close to cursed as it's possible to be. and here's the quickest and most artistic summary of that sad fact.

Awful, to be sure. But why does the refugee camp share its name with a seasoning common in Arab cuisine?
