Can't get much better trained in the proper care and use of firearms than a police officer:

DUBLIN, Calif. — Investigators are working to determine the circumstances that led a Bay Area Rapid Transit police officer to accidentally shoot and kill a fellow officer, the first on-duty fatality in the department's 42-year history, authorities said.

If you're going to own a gun, you should be well trained in its maintenance and use. That said, proper training does not make a gun safe. Guns are killing machines. Not sure why more Americans don't fear keeping one in the home?
