Pennsylvania Judge Affirms Right to Vote; Republicans Will Surely Appeal

Posted by on Fri, Jan 17, 2014 at 12:19 PM

According to The New York Times:

A state judge on Friday struck down a nearly two-year-old requirement that almost all of Pennsylvania’s 8.2 million voters show photo identification before voting, setting the stage for a showdown before the state’s highest court....“Voting laws are designed to assure a free and fair election; the Voter ID Law does not further this goal,” Judge McGinley wrote in his 103-page ruling.

The law, one of the strictest in the nation, was signed by Gov. Tom Corbett, a Republican, in March 2012 over the protests of Democratic lawmakers in state Republican-controlled Legislature.

Forget about Chris Christie's pettiness, or other celebrity politics updates; when it comes to predicting the outcome of the 2016 election, voter ID laws are the most important news topic to follow right now.

The republicans may or may not appeal it, but they'll certainly introduce another similar requirement about a week before voting day.

Yeah! Because nobody should have to prove who they are before voting, damn it!

It's weird how the line between actual liberal beliefs and parody of them is so hard to distinguish. You know, for sane people.

@2,FTA
the free IDs that were supposed to be made available to those without drivers licenses or other approved photo identification were difficult and sometimes impossible to obtain
If they cannot give people proof of who they are, they cannot require people show proof.

@2: But God forbid that people have to show any form of identification to purchase a firearm, right?

@2 Auntie Seattleblues, you know I love you, but you've totally lost me on this one.

First off what problem with hordes of illegal voters showing up at the polls? Social Security numbers and technological advances killed that long ago.

Even if you don't buy that, you've got to admit, being the wise business woman you are that these days it is FUCKING STUPID to try and pay enough people to commit fraud by running in and out of multiple polling places.
