The Sunday Morning News

Score One for "Animal Rights Extremists": A dog shelter in Forks, Washington is shutting down after demonstrations mounted against poor conditions—tiny cages, sparse food and water, poop. The owner of the shelter was arrested after kicking a protester's car.

Marijuana: Where's the word come from? The Mexican Revolution.

"I Am Not A Marxist": "But I have met many Marxists in my life who are good people, so I don't feel offended." —The Pope

RIP William Booker: Booker was an African-American navigator and flight engineer who served in the second World War in the Tuskegee Airmen squadron. He was 90.

What's Obstructing Bertha? KUOW has a few guesses, including calcified prostitutes and glacial erratics.

Nelson Mandela Laid to Rest: The anti-apartheid icon was buried Saturday at a town called Qunu, his birthplace. Don't miss this fascinating interview with Ronny Kasrils, a white ANC activist, who describes meeting Mandela for the first time in 1962 as they readied "sabotage actions" for launch against the apartheid government.

Edward Snowden, Legend: Dude did such a great job covering his tracks, including using other employees' logins and passcodes, that the NSA, like a clueless Scooby Doo villain, still hasn't determined the extent of the documents he took and leaked.

Go Jade Rabbit: China's rover made it to the moon! Next up: a space station in 2020 and then an astronaut on the moon, the Chinese government says.

This is for you, Sean Kinney:

Great photo of Bertha. I'd take less than the current minimum wage to work in an environment like that.

How's yer dead, decomposing gramma @1?

I haven't been back to the cemetery. You asked a few times now, how come you're so interested?

Btw, what's your guess as to the origin of the term 'reefer?'

The percentage of each past president's cabinet who had worked in the private business sector prior to their appointment to the cabinet.

(You know what the private business sector is; a real-life business, not a government job....)

Here are the percentages.

T. Roosevelt................38%

Wilson .......................52%

F. Roosevelt.................50%

GH Bush......................51%

Clinton ........................39%

GW Bush.....................55%

Obama............... 8%

This helps to explain the incompetence of this administration: ONLY 8% of them...have ever worked in private business.

It would take a very special glacial erratic because I assume that Bertha can cut through bedrock. I mean this should be a safe assumption since encountering an erratic of large size is highly probable.

Great article on Edward Snowden and the cluelessness at the NSA (bet they are too busy disbursing large sums like that $2.5 million the CIA disbursed to Levinson's family --- wonder how many of those payouts they disburse per day?). Here's another posting on it:…

And the control element for which that intel really goes to? The banksters, 'natch!

And two trailers:

If you don't follow the money, you'll never understand anything!

I suppose they could just dig the tunnel deeper to go under the object and then come back up to continue on with their original path - and repeat as necessary for other objects.

@6 I've heard excavators complain about encountering granite erratics the size of trucks in Puget Sound area soil. That would be enough to stop Bertha until the divers manually break it up.

I don't know about anyone else, but the big show of 1% ers at Mandela's funeral made me sick to my stomach. To me it was more an act of self-aggrandizement like saying "hey, we honor the Everyman's struggle" when the exact opposite is true.

@5, even if the claim weren't false, I enjoy the loony idea that people who have worked in the private sector are somehow more competent than the people who have dedicated their lives to public service.

Congratulations, warsh-yer-mouth-ington. You're #1 on the list of least-likely-to-cuss-out a non-cooperative phone rep.

On the looming-disasters front, this.

That was prepared by private contractors?

Or do you prefer the state government exchanges that have been running smoothly?

Brilliant Response!

why didn't Obama think of it?

Instead he apologized for what a total fuckup incompetent he is.....

@19: Heh, this from the jackass who talks about experience in business being important for politicians...
Let me tell you one thing I learned working in retail. If the customer is upset, it costs nothing to apologize. Even if it's not the fault of the business, if it's making the customer unhappy, you show sympathy and acknowledge the problem. Instead of playing the blame game, the President validated people's concerns and worked to fix it, even though it wasn't strictly speaking his fault. That's leadership, and you can hate on him all you want without changing that one bit.

@24: When was the last time you were invited to a party?

@25: Hey look! It is the new social measurement game, How Fun Are You At Parties!

Scoring (does not apply to corporate parties):

+10 Come to a party from a higher social class
+5 Be the center of the conversation
+5 Exclude losers from talking to you (requires sufficient social status)
+5 Win a drinking game
+1 Make a funny offensive joke
-1 Be offended
-5 Counter someone else's bullshit on philosophy, science, or any complex subject with actual expertise ("based on my research, studies, 15 years experience, degrees, ..."). Penalty goes to the bullshitter if you berate and embarrass them and then bring it up every 15 minutes.
-5 Call someone out on being sexist, racist, etc.
-10 Come to a party from a lower social class
-50 Mention the absurdity of this social pecking order activity

If you have -15 points then you get kicked out. The person with the highest score wins. The results are filed in your permanent school/work record so that everyone in the world will know how great you are or aren't. If you get kicked out of a party while coming from a lower social class, then you are forever banned from going to higher social class parties. Also, dentists aren't doctors, so they don't get the social class bump that MDs receive.

I love watching self-described leftists worship at the feet of libertarian anarcho-capitalists like Snowden. It's so precious.
