This kind of consumer frenzy is not at all out of order. The public would be disappointed if the animal spirits were indeed absent from the core of this national spectacle. And those who express disgust at this kind of behavior, the wild animal spirits of the consumer, are only contributing to this spectacle. For disgust is to this kind of frenzy what clapping is to a great performance in a play. And so the more intense the frenzy, the greater the disgust; and the more brilliant a performance, the louder the clapping.
