The electronic version of the brand-new second issue of Matt Fraction and Chip Zdarsky's comic book Sex Criminals is currently "under review" by Apple. This means you won't be able to buy the comic on Apple's digital devices. On his Tumblr, Zdarsky explains all the many ways you can still download a copy of the issue via digital booksellers.

I'd also like to add that you can pick up a physical copy of Sex Criminals (hopefully future issues will add a little sunburst of cover copy that reads "TOO HOT FOR APPLE" or something along those lines) at one of Seattle's many very good comics shops. I bought the first issue of the series from Phoenix Comics last month, and I really enjoyed it. Sex Criminals is the story of Suzanne, a librarian who discovers that she has a weird super-power: Whenever she has an orgasm, time stops around her. (Somebody must've read Nicholson Baker's The Fermata, I'm figuring.) At the beginning of the book, we see Suzanne having sex in a bank bathroom in the middle of a heist, and then we flash back to find her discovering her power. Because people are uncomfortable talking about sexual matters with kids, Suzanne naturally assumes that what she's experiencing is just a natural aftereffect of sex.

Sex Criminals doesn't shy away from the adult subject matter, but it handles it in an adult way, too. It's such a relief to see female masturbation addressed in an adult, woman-positive manner in a comic book, and speaking selfishly, it's a real pleasure to read a comic book about a protagonist who is a total, unabashed book nerd. This is a comic that deserves a wide readership, and it's a shame that Apple could be fucking that up.
