Currently Hanging: Are You Ready for 3,000 Years of Peru?

Posted by on Tue, Oct 22, 2013 at 9:12 AM

Have you been to the new show at SAM? I'm not sure yet how to process it; I'm only sure it is dazzling. And big. So big. It's from the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, one of the biggest exhibitions of Peruvian art ever to travel to North America.

Here's a procession of faces and hands in works of art from across time in the show. Try making up a story that connects them. I'll go back to reading the 7,000-page, 9-million-pound catalog.

Any recommendations on links/books/etc to bone up on Peruvian art history before checking out the show?

My Latin is rusty, but based on the plaque, I think he's trying to say "My Jesus is a Regular Rosie, we party all night long".

I wonder if that's little Queen Isabella, in reverence to Spain.

@5 - I will now endeavor to make "a regular Rosie" slang for something. At first glance, it appears to mean "a fun and agreeable woman" but the specific interpretation is still open for discussion. It isn't even on the Urban Dictionary yet.

@7, a fun and agreeable woman with all the flesh flayed off of her detached skull?

@8 - A regular Rosie is the kind of woman who might get her flesh removed on a lark, just so she can say she did it.
