The Best of Slog: A Shutdown, A Terrible Ad, and Unprofessional Medical Advice

"Don't worry, the picture of your badge is going to be blurred." Here's video of the July interaction between Dominic Holden and the police.

The Week in Shutdown News: The Teapocalypse is upon us, even though Americans don't want it. We have so many questions for Republicans. What about the children? Don't you care about the children? Are you mad that these women and children are going to be able to eat for the rest of the month, no thanks to you? Wasn't the budget small enough? Is CNN on your side? Do you want people to starve? How long is this going to go on? Do you object to bars serving furlough specials? Who's got bigger balls—this guy, or this guy? Do you realize that your hypocrisy is showing?

We Love Obamacare in Washington: We love it so much we couldn't even get on the goddamned website. Here's Goldy's review of the website when it finally became available.

That's Funny, Politics Always Speaks Very Highly of You: Goldy writes an open letter to politics.

Get Humpin': Tickets are on sale now.

Label Fight: Money is pouring into the anti-522 campaign. Here are ads from both sides of the initiative. This ad is the worst ad since that Wonka-inspired Joe Mallahan video.

People Have Differing Opinions: Some bar owners and nightlife advocates are for Ed Murray. Some are not.

Wait, I Thought Government Was Evil? Hooray for Seattle City Light!

Being Homeless Is Expensive: A local site promises three days of homeless life on the streets of Seattle for $2000. I talked to the man behind the site.

I'm Not a Doctor but I Provide Medical Advice in the Comments: Slog knows how to cure a cold.

The Awards Show Was Genius: Bethany Jean Clement recaps the Genius Awards.

Lastly, Fuck You, Michele Bachmann:

The Tea Party movement is apparently good about re-branding things like The Affordable Care Act. At which point do we get to re-brand them as The Confederacy of Dunces?

Given the shutdown, I suggest that the Obama administration cut off money for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting for more urgent social needs.

Given the shutdown, I suggest Obama cut off corporate welfare and give the money to public broadcasting.

I wonder if Michelle Bachman has some untreated venereal disease that she got from her closet case husband?

@4: One would think then that keeping the WWII memorial and the memorial at Normandy would be even a smaller sliver of the budget - yet they were closed.

Oh yeah, with the Park Service it's all or nothing (very convenient) - that and the White House tours shut down for the sequester no doubt show a pattern spiteful mean spiritedness of Obama in his quest to inflict maximum humiliation on Congressional Republicans.

@7: I thought of a snippy retort for that, but I'll let it pass.

@6 it's hilarious to see your constant butt hurt on display over white house tours and a couple of closed monuments when there are people out their wondering how they're going to pay the rent or feed their families. Your bff boehner played his hand and now he's fucked. Welcome to politics as played by the Republican party.

Phoebe darling, it's sweet of you to "pull" for her, and of course we all are praying, but sometimes sick people look perfectly fine. They rot from the inside.

You mean 19 music and nightlife community members who endorsed McGinn last time and worked closely with him over his first term came out and endorsed Ed Murray, while one guy who owns a building a club is in, whose partners endorsed Murray, and is butt hurt his name wasn't on the list, but donated to Murray, said one of the guys endorsing Murray doesn't speak for everyone in the nightlife community, but doesn't disagree with that persons support of Murray since he's also supporting Murray financially.
