Posted by on Thu, Oct 3, 2013 at 8:44 AM

Republicans Keeping Millions of Poor and Black Folks Out of Health Insurance: The Republicans are literally killing people.

The Huge Company WSDOT Hired for the Tunnel: Hasn't fulfilled its commitment to pay a certain number of small and POC-owned businesses for work.

Day 3 of the Shutdown: The new focus is the debt ceiling deadline.

At the Checkout Line at Walmart: Man shoots himself accidentally.

Apartment Fire in the U District: One man died after jumping. Intentionally set?

Hornet Attacks in Northwest China: Have killed 42 people and wounded more than 1,500.

Russia Goes After Greenpeace Protesters: Declares them pirates.

Syria Cuts off Food and Medicine in a Town That Was Gassed: "Tightening the noose."

African Migrants Are Dying on their Way to Italy: The latest victims are Eritreans and Somalians who shipwrecked off Lampedusa.

Why Are There Still So Few Women in Science?: Because boys have curves?

"Other women chimed in to say that their teachers were the ones who teased them the most. In one physics class, the teacher announced that the boys would be graded on the 'boy curve,' while the one girl would be graded on the 'girl curve'; when asked why, the teacher explained that he couldn’t reasonably expect a girl to compete in physics on equal terms with boys."

Well, Then...That's Freedom Amazon to You!: France passes anti-Amazon bill.

Weird Theft at the Karpeles Manuscript Library in Tacoma: The bronze plaque out front that says "Karpeles Manuscript Library," probably looted in this economy for the metal.

Hmm?: A handful of Microsoft's big investors are said to want Bill Gates out.

Tropical Storm Karen: Hurricane watch in the Gulf from Louisiana to Florida.

Two Europeans Killed and Burned by a Mob in Madagascar: Elections coming, organ trafficking accusations.

Sinead O'Connor: Schooling Miley Cyrus.

Open letter to Bimbo's:
Dear Bimbo's, Thank you for the $4.32 burrito yesterday. It was so good. I like you best at late lunch, when almost nobody is there with me and there is a great mischief-eyed server whose name I have, intermittently, been able to remember, to my shame for forgetting later. You, Bimbo's at lunch, have another unsung goodness: You play old but not ironically so records that are often reminders of something I loved. Thanks for yesterday's Magnetic Fields. I'd forgotten how good "69 Love Songs" was. Love, Jen

If Sinead O'Connor really thinks a "majority" of rapey guys work in the music industry, she needs to get out more.

Probably meant that a majority of the guys in the music industry are rapey, of course. Not the same thing.

That tunnel story is naaaaasty. I'm glad they're being forced to play catchup at least a little, but the reporting makes clear that some (most?) of those dollars for local minority and women-owned businesses are GONE FOREVER.

I don't know much. But it would never occur to me that women are any less capable of success in any profession simply because of their sex. And it makes me wonder about other motives.

Kent Exposes Battery Car Firebomb!

A video of a Tesla electric car on fire on a highway offramp in Kent, Wash. sent the company's stock tumbling Wednesday.

Photos and video appeared online, showing a Tesla Model S burning at the bottom of an exit ramp from Highway 167.

Oh, that discharge story is amusing in a Darwin sort of way. Of course, the fucker isn't expected to be charged with negligence or anything. Do you think he's signing up for Obamacare today?

The man, 21, was a handgun carry permit holder and had an unholstered .40-caliber pistol in his waistband, police said. When he reached for the gun to prevent it from slipping as he approached the Walmart checkout line, the firearm discharged a single round into his leg.

#5: But of course this one incident shows that Tesla cars are unsafe, unlike say the thousands of similar incidents that happen every year with conventional cars. This is Supreme Ruler logic at its finest.

It's so cute that Jen Graves thinks of that Magnetic Fields song, or any of their songs for that matter, as being old.

Republicans Keeping Millions of Poor and Black Folks Out of Health Insurance....

And this is exactly why such programs should be mandated at the federal level, or national level, and not at the states' level, which is why the Koch brothers have pumped so much money into A.L.E.C. (American Legislative Exchange Council) over the years. It is far easier to dismantle and compromise at the individual state level!

One of many reasons why the ACA is a great deal for the health insurance corporations, owned by the banks, and a relatively bad deal for the majority of us (yes, things may go slightly better in WA state then others, but overall it is still the backdoor bailout deal for the health insurance companies, doing nothing to actually address the rising healthcare costs, which will indeed continue to rise, and allowing the health insurance companies to continue offshoring existing American jobs).

The Real, the Unreal, and That Which is American

The ACA originated from the far rightwing outfit, the Heritage Foundation, yet the so-called Democrats have embraced it?

The cap-and-trade program, although it has faltered and so far not been enacted into law, originated from within the Reagan Administration but was laughed off the floor of congress back in the 1980s (guess we still had authentic democrats in congress back then?), yet that too has been embraced by the faux crats (exceptions: Dennis Kucinich, Peter DeFazio and, of course Greenpeace)?

The shutting down of the US gov't, of course, has nothing to do with the ACA (referred to as "ObamaCare") or President Obama's politics, or anything else other than subservient greed, the greed of the political lackeys to their money masters, who reap untold billions with speculation among the T-bill futures and associated financial instruments!

When examined at the big picture or macro level, the ACA, or ObamaCare, is a great deal for the health insurance companies, but a rotten deal overall for many Americans; it is a small business killer (the true employer today in America), it is structured at the state level, and as previously explained, such programs must be enacted at the federal or national level (think of Social Security being transacted differently among the various states?), many will be left without insurance, thanks to the aforementioned political lackeys, also it opens a gigantic can of poison worms --- allowing corporate penalties deployed by the IRS, thus cementing the bond between the privatization of taxation (or at least tax penalties) and corporate control and legally mandated profit.

One of the primary reasons the health insurance corporations required this backdoor bailout was due to the increasing numbers of offshored American jobs, something which insurance companies have done for decades, beginning with Prudential offshoring existing American jobs to Ireland back in the 1970s.

Today, in India, there actually exists a city supported by all the jobs offshored by the health insurance companies and the American healthcare sector.

Fundamentally, this political theater of the absurd is about jackholes battling other jackholes, with both groups working on behalf of the very same jackholes, who will reap those government-subsidized health insurance monies, as well as untold fortunes from the current speculation across global financial exchanges with regard to Treasuries, or T-bills, etc.

It is the bizarre situation of the Democrats (really faux crats) embracing a rightwing creation, while the r-cons fight them on it, and those who donate to both so-called parties reap the benefits --- such was the case with cap-and-trade, which stumbled in its presentation to the public, in that it was nothing more than free money to the banks and oil corporations, having nothing to do with stopping climate change!
