The Sunday Morning News

Posted by on Sun, Sep 29, 2013 at 8:00 AM

Soggy, Cold, Rather Miserable: That's the Seattle-area this weekend, with a smattering of floods and power outages.

You Can't Hide: The NSA apparently decided in 2011, "Hey, why not track Americans on Facebook and other social networks? Yeah, let's totally do that." Journalist Glenn Greenwald is hinting that the NSA is also involved in assassinating people.

Wait! It Gets Creepier: An NSA employee spied on nine women for six years without being detected.

Women-Only Transportation: On the rise in India, after a series of high profile gang rapes.

Yoga > People: Low-income tenants of a Ballard housing complex are being driven out by the building's new owners, KING 5 reports.

Chessmaster Senator Ted Cruz: Does not know how to play chess.

Pioneer Square Beating: A man is in the hospital after being attacked by two strangers, police say.

The Arab Spring Goes On: Tunisia is where it all started, folks. Now, the Islamist-led Tunisian government is stepping down.

Paging Hollywood: Former US soldier-snipers were among those arrested in an operation by the DEA targeting an "international hit team" that accepted $700,000 to kill a DEA agent.

"Chicken-Shit Editors" And The Real Raid on Osama Bin Laden: Seymour Hersh is a man who knows what he's talking about.

Sex! Suspense! And shit. Highly entertaining:

More hard working taxpayers assaulted downtown by thugs? What a shock, it's so "safe" down there and anybody who crosses the street when he sees black males at 10 pm is a racist!

But remember, crime is down downtown.

You missed this one Ansel, right under The Stranger's nose!

"SEATTLE - A 19-year-old man was robbed of his cell phone at gunpoint while walking through Cal Anderson Park on Friday night, police said."

And here's the kicker!

"Officers responded and searched the area but did not locate the suspect.

He is described as a BLACK MALE in his 20s, standing about 6 feet tall, with a thin build and wearing a black-and-grey hooded sweatshirt. The victim was not injured."

But remember, if you cross the street when you see young black males approaching you in hoodies after dark, you're a racist.

More than likely, Senator Cruz or one of his staffers just picked a photo after googling images of "chess." There is plenty of material on the Texas Senator, but to blog about this as something Machiavellian or an insight into his thinking is simply not the case.

Ansel, you might want to brush up on your own chess skills so you can fact-check. The Huff Post piece incorrectly (and idiotically, as they were calling out someone else's fuckup - http://huff.to/19gBXO2) stated both queens were on the wrong starting square, whereas in fact one of them is right. HuffPo wrote "Cruz, the junior Republican senator from Texas, as noted on Twitter by Business Insider's Joseph Weisenthal, had both on the wrong squares." In fact, Weisenthal pointed out that Cruz had both his *King* and *Queen* on the wrong squares. I hate it when assholes try to make assholes out of assholes.

Officers Flush Out Burglar After He Leaves ID At Scene of Break-In

Shortly after 11:00 pm Tuesday night, officers were called to the Wallingford QFC after an intoxicated man cracked open a bottle of whisky and a package of cheese inside the store, and then refused to leave the store’s bathroom.

When officers arrived at the store, they found the Green Lake burglary suspect had passed out on the bathroom floor. They woke him up and, discovered he was still carrying around property stolen in the Green Lake break-in, and arrested him for burglary and robbery.

The chess thing is kinda dumb. Yes, he obviously doesn't play chess, but it's not important for the message.

What was *really* laughable was his using a student, John Connelly as a poster child for how horrible the ACA will be. Mr. Connelly was interviewed by Ed Schultz & got off this zinger, "...if his example is the best example Cruz could come up with of people suffering under Obamacare, then Obamacare is in fact a sweet deal."

Oh wow, you mean all those nimrods, halfwits, illiterate turds and various and sundry lowbrows were actually wrong, that is completely incorrect, when they hurled the epithets of "conspiracy theorists" and "paranoid tin hat people" at us for digging up and reporting the truth about NSA in particular and the US intelligence establishment in general?

Gee whiz, like it was really difficult in the age of privatizing the entire intel community to actually figure this stuff out, huh?

Yes, the Internet's backbone is being surveilled in an enormous manner:

https://www.schneier.com/blog/archives/2…

Yes, they have been generating chatbots and trollbots for ages to attempt to enact a general "consensus" and yes they have been accessing and accumulating data from any and all social networking sites:

http://cryptome.org/2013/09/nsa-syanpse.…

http://boingboing.net/2013/09/28/nsa-is-…

(Funny, I am still personally banned from boingboing.net for not sticking to vanilla-type commentaries? Geez, I guess that Cory Doctorow jackhole really believes in freedom of the press, huh????)

@21, 22: It's an $800 "Barrister" set from Hammacher Schlemmer. Probably a snootyprop in either Cruz's Washington digs or his senatorial offices.

These chess sets can get confusing when the pieces and the board veer toward earth tones, but the queens are always directly opposite each other, as are the kings. Not the case on Cruz's board.

@23: No, what's pathetic is that you and the Huffington-Puffington Post (as Rush calls them) are extrapolating an error in setting up chess pieces as anything more than an innocuous error. I don't need to "give anything up" because I'm not the one with a smear agenda.

@21: Thank you.

@25 "Smear" whatever! I'm not saying anything about Ted Cruz! You're the one who's so slavishly rushing to his defense that you're insisting that they Googled the image. "No way Ted Cruz's office could have set up a chess board wrong." Weak!

It is a minor mistake, which is what makes your desperate attempt at covering it up pathetic. Please, stop being such a stereotype.

Seymour Hersh does indeed know what he's talking about, and has the guts to state the truth. The supposed raid that killed Bin Laden was a complete sham. Unfortunately most people are too credulous to question the official story, or perhaps they're afraid of being called a conspiracy theorist. Just because government officials and corporate media tell you to believe something doesn't mean it's true, as history proves over and over.
