Things are getting pretty horrific for LGBT people in Russia. The more pressure the rest of the world can put on Russia, the better it will be for those LGBT people in Russia, who are currently in great physical danger. With both Mayor McGinn and Senator Ed Murray adding their voices, it makes the Seattle City Council look pretty cowardly for not taking a stand. Both the Mayor and Sen. Murray were on the picket line at the Russian Consular Residence a few weeks ago, protesting the atrocities.
While these are largely symbolic actions, they are important, and they are noticed. The City of Seattle has an impressive record for standing up for human rights. This is one of those times when no action by the Council is noticed by the voters of Seattle, and remembered. Please reconsider your decision not to address a resolution about this in the council chambers.
