The Yes on 522 campaign has released their opening ads this morning, which you can expect to see statewide starting today. Initiative 522, if you haven't been following, would mandate the labeling of foods that contain genetically modified ingredients. Apparently the labeling initiative's opponents are also going live with TV ads today, so let the duking it out begin. Note that both sides mostly avoid addressing the science of GMO food; the pro-labeling side says they're all about transparency and consumer choice, the anti-labeling side just says it's "costly" and "unfair."
So far, the Yes on 522 campaign has raised about $3.5 million. The No side has raised more than $11 million, much of that from Monsanto.
I put up an example of the anti-labeling ads from California last week. Below are the two Yes on 522 ads; if I can get ahold of any of our local No ads I'll put 'em up, too.
