  • Jonathan, a barista at Specialty's Coffee, joins walkout after being called in to replace striking workers.

Jonathan, a barista at a downtown Seattle Specialty's Coffee, got a call today to fill in on an understaffed shift. But when he showed up to discover that he was replacing striking co-workers, he walked out too. "They called me in to work to keep the store running," he told strike organizers. "But I can't be a scab."

"That's one more way movements grow," says Working Washington's Sage Wilson: "shifting expectations about what's normal and acceptable." And even without an actual union, fast food workers are beginning to display the solidarity that comes with one.
