A new biography and documentary about J.D. Salinger suggest that at least five new books by Salinger will be published, possibly starting in 2015:
One collection, called “The Family Glass,” would include five new stories about the family featured in “Franny and Zooey” and other work. Another would include new stories about Holden Caulfield’s family. And one of the new books is reportedly a “manual” of Vedanta, a belief system Salinger learned from spiritual teacher Swami Nikhilananda.
(The biography, of course, is co-authored by local literary figure David Shields, and it's set for release on September 3rd.) Ever since Salinger died, I've been waiting to find out how many of these manuscripts he'd stashed away. I suspect there may be more than five books, but that the final tally of published new works will depend on the response to these titles. Which means you should get ready for the biggest publisher marketing blitz you've ever seen.
