Here's the thing: Nobody real is talking about impeaching Obama. It's not going to happen. But right-wing groups—the same people who forced the Tea Party into existence—are going to want to promote the idea of impeachment, because it makes Obama feel more like a lame duck president, and it changes the conversation from his agenda to a manufactured impeachment "crisis." And the media loves the idea of increased impeachment talk, because that's a really obvious conflict, and 24-hour cable news (and sites like BuzzFeed) thrives on conflict. But this is not a real news story.
It's a distraction tactic. I'm pretty sure it's an organized distraction tactic. And it's really important that this tactic not succeed. Because this is the kind of sophomoric bullshit that can derail a year or two of a presidency. For Republicans, it's the next best thing to actually impeaching the president, because it takes the media's eyes off the things that matter—government shutdowns, battles over Obamacare, what's going on in Egypt—and promotes chaos and ignorance instead.
