SPD's Free "Hempfest Doritos" Show Up on eBay for $35 a Bag

Posted by on Sun, Aug 18, 2013 at 2:39 PM

Because potheads are capitalists, some entrepreneurial stoner scored lots of the snack-size bags of Doritos that cops handed out for free at Hempfest over the weekend, affixed with labels about the new pot-legalization law, and is auctioning them off on eBay:

  • eBay

Never mind the whopping price tag on a snack that was originally a "gift," according to the eBay page, what's the most tempting part about this landmark munchy marketing? "Item condition: Used." A salty piece of history!

Thanks to Slog tipper Carrie.

Was this a Doritos viral marketing campaign or what?

Looks like those are empty bags fished out of the garbage, rather than actual bags of chips. SPD also posted DIY instructions on their Blotter for making your own bag.

My downstairs neighbors were having a "hempfest" last night.

All I had to do to enjoy it was turn off my exhaust fan.

Then my living room was like having one of those plastic bags you put your head into while inhaling.

Nowhere near as cool as Jeff Nelson's bone chips.

Well, capitalism for stoners which means they'll always have roommates.

Hopefully they are coated with squirrel pee.

This was predictable, and predicted.

Still, given that this was a cool thing, and was done by some sort of police-affiliated public service foundation (so they could say no public money was spent), if somebody's going to make money off of it I'd much rather it be the originating foundation.

Lets see... Buy a case of Doritos at Costco, print up a batch of labels on my ink jet printer, log onto eBay... win!

eBay is for suckers.

This would make a lovely companion piece to the Twinkie I bought on E-Bay last year.

Hippies who don't realize they're being sold out regularly by their "fellow stoners" are the worst.

Forty-five minutes later: "dude, I thought you said you bought some Doritos online. Where the fuck are they? I'm starving, man".

Swag-M is not capitalism. Capitalism is M-C-M.

Selling some free crap you got for a quick buck is the way desperate people on the bottom turn the crumbs that fall from the ruling class into a few more days of subsistence. You think that C-note turned Jurgis Rudkus (google him!) into a capitalist? That's not how it goes for guys like that.

Ask Mr. Mudede if you don't believe me.

I hope someone will send a genuine bag down to MOHI, history and all that.

@17 There's probably no way to determine what a "genuine" bag is at this point, given that the sticker is downloadable and the bags used were bought off the shelf.

One of the bags on ebay will benefit the Southern Oregon Four defense fund.

Operation Orange fingers "Doritos" will help end the drug war in Oregon, or at least help a few activists who lives and liberties are threatened by the war on drugs.

@12 -- put your money where your mouth is. sell some fake SPD Doritos and tell us all about how clever you are.

(my opinion on our police department remains unchanged after this publicity stunt.)
