Yesterday, a bunch of Slog commenters took me to task for saying that raccoons are not cute. In the comments, I clarified my position: Aesthetically, they may be cute, but behaviorally, raccoons are terrible monsters. I've had too many disturbing camping trip encounters with those little bastards to easily forgive or forget.
And yet, I love bears. Even though a bear could bat my head clean off my shoulders in two-tenths of a heartbeat, I could watch bears do bear-things forever*. Bears are adorable and majestic and scary and handsome, all at the same time. This is why I've already watched the new trailer for Disneynature's** Bears documentary five or six times today. Here is how much I love bears: The cloying music and the shameless anthropomorphism in this trailer don't even bother me.
I'm watching the hell out of this movie next spring.
* I realize that this post is basically a whole stack of double entendres, and I encourage any particularly enterprising individuals to feel free to use the text of this Slog post as voiceover narration for their HUMP! entry this year.
** Disneynature is, apparently, all one word. That's a terrible thing to do to a bunch of letters.
