Matthew Offenbacher and Victoria Haven have each won $25,000 as this year's recipients of the Neddy at Cornish awards.

They were selected by Sean Elwood, the bright mind at Creative Capital in New York whose former residence in Seattle has led that organization to be one of the few national groups that does not overlook the work produced in the Pacific Northwest.

Congratulations to both deserving winners. It's a great change to see a painter awarded by the Neddy who pushes the boundaries of what painting means in 2013. And Haven was awarded in the category "Open Medium," which makes good sense as well.

Six additional finalists will have work in the annual exhibition—happening September 4 through October 19—and receive $1,000 each: Emily Gherard, Andrea Heimer, and Robert Yoder in painting; and Julie Alpert, Jack Daws, and Dan Webb in "Open Medium."
