Hey, everybody! It's a long but worthwhile-sounding recommendation from Slog tipper Tony:

I am writing to tell you about the Sunset Cafe, an outstanding Ethiopian restaurant in South Seattle. My wife and I have been regulars for a while, and have become very fond of the warm, hard-working owner and cook, Tsehay. She has been struggling as of late, and I wanted to see what I could do to help her.

My wife and I discovered the restaurant last year. It does not look like much on the outside, and at the time there was no entry for it on Yelp nor any info about it online, but we decided to go for it. We were so glad we did! Tsehay greeted us with genuine warmth, and then went back to the kitchen to cook up the best plate of vegetarian Ethiopian food I have ever had. She served many dishes I had never seen before, and she took the time to explain what each one was as she dished it out on to the injera.

We were hooked. Each time we went there Tsehay had at least one new dish for us to try. When we boxed up our leftovers, she insisted on adding more food to make sure we would have another meal's worth!

When she had time, Tsehay would come over to talk with us. It turns out that she works the night shift as an attendant at a local hospital. After work she comes home to get a few hours of sleep, and then heads to the restaurant to work all afternoon and evening. Sometimes you could see the exhaustion on her face, but she always managed to be cheerful and optimistic.

The most memorable meal was during Lent, when many Ethiopians do not eat meat. The variety of vegetarian dishes she brought out was astonishing. A large table of Moslem woman sat next to us, and Tsehay explained that they always came there during Lent because they could avoid non-Halal dishes that way.

Her son goes to UW and plans on becoming a lawyer. I can see how proud the whole family is of him. He recently helped her put a web page for the restaurant together and has been trying to increase her online presence. This was great to hear and I thought that her business had turned a corner. I was wrong. I went there last week to pick up some food to bring home, and Tsehay seemed quite unhappy. It turns out that the restaurant had been very slow, and she almost decided to close the it. I felt terrible for her. She works so hard and makes such great food—she deserves to succeed!

I have told many of my friends about this place, but apparently the word is not spreading fast enough, and not everyone is willing to venture this far south. I want to do something to help her, but I am not sure what.

And this is why I am writing to you. I am hoping you would consider reviewing Tsehay's restaurant and/or doing a story on her. I want to get the word out and encourage folks to give the Sunset Cafe a try. I know once they do they will love it!
