This internet slideshow of the insides of an Amazon warehouse in Rugeley is well worth your time. (Make sure you read the captions.) It's a reminder that while Amazon is doing amazing things for South Lake Union and the income of thousands of Seattleites right now, all that money isn't appearing out of thin air; it's being made on the backs of poor people around the world.

These people are kept on a short leash. They're routinely hired and fired as seasonal workers, and they can even lose their jobs for speaking to each other on the clock. But yes, I'm sure if all those people just work as hard as Jeff Bezos does, they can one day sit in a cushy office and command their own armies of underpaid, overworked minions. That's exactly how the market works, right?
