Earlier this week, we learned that Rand Paul's ghost writer and new media director is a secessionist who said that Abraham Lincoln would have had a homosexual relationship with Adolf Hitler. Today, we learn that Rand Paul is standing by his man:

“I'm not a fan of secession,” Paul said. “I think the things he said about John Wilkes Booth are absolutely stupid. I think Lincoln was one of our greatest presidents. Do I think Lincoln was wrong is taking away the freedom of the press and the right of habeas corpus? Yeah.

...Are we at a point where nobody can have had a youth or said anything untoward?” the senator asked rhetorically.

Joan Walsh at Salon has a great piece dismantling Paul's view of Abraham Lincoln that you should read. Turns out, his interpretation of Lincoln is from a secessionist/white supremacist angle. Which should surprise exactly nobody. This is not the first person with this kind of background that Rand Paul has hired. I'm not sure how many passes he gets, or how he manages to find so many people with aggressively racist pasts to work for him.
