Seattle city council member and mayoral challenger Bruce Harrell has launched the first* TV ad of the mayoral campaign season. Unlike incumbent Mayor Mike McGinn's first ad, which struck a consistently positive tone, Harrell's ad starts with an attack on McGinn before quickly pivoting to Harrell's bio and virtues. It's a pretty standard representation of the genre.

Harrell's ad has more expensive-looking production values than McGinn's, but reportedly has less money behind it: I'm told $7,000/week vs $15,000/week for McGinn's. Ed Murray's people tell me that his ad is coming.

* I don't really care which ad was up on cable first. It's just not important.
