To those of you complaining about the fact that this isn't as serious a feminist issue as the Republican war against abortion: I agree that an offhand comment made at a fundraiser isn't as big a deal as banning access to abortion for all women everywhere. Good point! But even though it's not the most outrageous moral transgression in the history of the world, it's still a topic worthy of discussion. And that's what the internet is for, right? Communication?

And for those of you who say that there are more important topics out there to talk about: The internet is capable of containing more than one conversation at any time. Rather than talking about how unimportant something is, maybe go find something important and talk about that, instead? Because going out of your way to prominently post "who cares?" in a discussion thread is kind of an oxymoronic action.

I'm glad President Obama apologized. It was a classy move, and the whole affair was dealt with quickly and without any drama. This is a perfect demonstration of how to handle a situation like this one.
