Vote for Your Favorite Cosby Show Sweater

Posted by on Fri, Mar 22, 2013 at 12:00 PM

At first I was like, "Oh, this is a cute idea." And then I was like, "FUCK! This is FASCINATING!" You are currently invited to vote for your favorite sweater ever from The Cosby Show on Bill Cosby's personal site. The poll is currently only in the second round of voting, so it's still early and the choices are still varied enough for you to make a real difference in how this election turns out—so VOTE!! Here's my favorite, which is currently in the lead (YAY!) but not by an awful lot (BOO!).

And if you have time to fall down the internet hole today, check out this 12-minute-long bio of Dutch designer Koos Van Den Akker—the creator of "the Cosby Sweater" (via Vice).

To whoever writes this column: I would like you to know that in its cleverness and wit, your sense of humor is roughly equal to Charles Mudede's. (That is, if you are not, in fact, a pseudonym for Charles Mudede.)

I've been watching The Cosby Show with my 6-year-old daughter, and I'm really surprised how well it holds up. It was a really good show, and some of the episodes are actually quite innovative for the genre. Now, I totally relate to the parents, but as a kid I obviously related to the kids. Man, I wish there was something like this on TV today that presented an all-ethnic family in a positive but 'real' (and not annoying) light.

I totally had a whole drawer of knockoff Cosby sweaters back in the late 1980s. It became a real fashion trend. I might even still have a couple of them stored in a box somewhere, god help me.

#2 - there was that show with Rob Schneider and all the mexicans, but I'm afraid it's already been canceled :(
