Right on the New York Times's front internet page, you'll find this video of A.O. Scott and David Carr (swoon!) talking about the death of the Boston Phoenix. Here's the video:
A little after the 3:30 point, where Scott is lamenting the sorry state of the Village Voice and other alternative weeklies, Carr (swoon!) butts in with an interjection:
It can be done, though. Look at The Stranger, edited by Dan Savage. A beautiful online paper, an exciting paper in print, still remarkable.
