Saturday Mail Delivery Is Not Dead Yet

Posted by on Fri, Mar 22, 2013 at 11:14 AM

Those of you who want the Postal Service to die a quick death might be disappointed after all. Seems the government does not approve of their plan to kill Saturday service:

The Government Accountability Office, a nonpartisan investigative arm of Congress, said in a legal opinion that the post office did not have the authority to make the change without Congressional approval, based on a spending measure passed by Congress last year.

The opinion was issued on the same day the House sent the president a spending measure that also required the post office to maintain Saturday delivery. That measure keeps the government operating through Sept. 30.

Of course, if Congress really wants the Postal Service to keep up with their delivery, they could just retract the unreasonable Congressional mandate that insists the USPS pre-fund health benefits for retirees.

What's funny is it was the "constitution loving" republicans who put that mandate into place.

Since 95% of what I get in my mail slot is junk mail, why the hell would I ever be excited over Saturday mail? Plus all my bills are electronic. The only time I need a stamp, is to vote.

I know the Post Office got screwed over by Republicans in regards to the pension funding thing, but so the fuck what if Saturday mail comes to an end? You can still ship things USPS from mail boxes ect, which has better hours and will have no problem fleecing you the way USPS does.

The GOP is soooo pro-life they're forcing the USPS to fund healthcare for unborn postal carriers.

" they could just retract the unreasonable Congressional mandate that insists the USPS pre-fund health benefits for retirees."

Republicans and conservaDems that want to kill anything that the Federal government could succeed at would never allow that to happen.

"so the fuck what if Saturday mail comes to an end?"

Do you seriously think that it's going to stop here? The end-goal is privatization.
