'Hood Watch: Feasting Hawks and a Duck Promenade

Metro Bus Begs Pedestrians to Call 911: "Call 911/HELP," said an illuminated sign on the side of a bus on Capitol Hill last Friday night, causing plenty of onlookers on Pine Street to oblige (while some seemed to simply tweet their horror). Turns out it was a false alarm—the driver accidentally triggered the bus's emergency response system, Capitol Hill Seattle Blog reports.

Bird of Prey, Preying on Birds: Like you, the hawk just wants to enjoy the springtime sunshine, but its bird eating escapades are robbing spring of its sweetness, laments Union Bay Watch.

A PodHouse: A Bothell couple wants to move to Ballard in a tiny, portable, cheap, and commuter-friendly house, My Ballard blog reports. Regardless of the project's blaring similarities to an aPodment, there has been no moratorium proposed on its construction.

Old Couple Spends Every Spring Circling Fred Meyer: It would be vaguely creepy—sad even—if it was a couple of human beings. Fortunately, it's just a pair of migrating ducks that have waddled their way to the Lake City branch of Fred Meyer every spring for years, Lake City Live reports.

We've got Red Tailed and Cooper's Hawks in my neighborhood as well, and when I hear them let out that Cobert-intro "Caaaaaaaaaaaa" as they dive for their prey, it's just about the only time I catch myself saying "fuck yeah!" to myself.

"...but it's bird eating escapades"?
Have the editors gone home and left the gentle intern in the hands of autocorrect?

I liked the piece about hawks, but it was just documenting their presence and their bird-killing habits. That's kind of what they do. I didn't see any lamentation over dead birds.

I love spotting the occasional raptor. I also liked the charming story about the old ducks.

I always wonder why predators sympathize more with prey than with fellow predators. Cute birds are cute, but a raptor's gotta eat.
