Real Change Will Double in Price

Posted by on Wed, Mar 20, 2013 at 4:16 PM

Starting in April, instead of costing $1, it will cost $2. And instead of vendors taking in home 65 cents per sale, they'll take home $1.40.

Good. Worth every penny.

I was wondering when they would increase the price. Great paper and great purpose.

Yes. I'll actually feel better now giving the Real Change guy at the U District Safeway $2 while the other bums look at me for another hand out. Btw, has anyone talked to the girl outside of that safeway at night to get her story? I don't know if she's legit or a just an ave rat who doesn't want to go home to her family.

The song, Brother Can You Spare a Dime? was written in 1931. Adjusted for inflation, that's $1.50. They've overpriced the newspaper.

I love every comment here so far. Man, I love Slog. I don't care for the writing in Real Changes because they are just a Sherman Alexie serial with some crazy wingnut doctor guest columnist, but I still buy them all the time because, come on you're crazy not to, they're about the best effort of a capitalist system to incorporate the homeless into the crazy rat race. God bless Real Change.

@2 that sounds just like the guy outside the 15th ave QFC. he's all kinds of awesome. i don't buy one every time, but when i do, i overpay.

(oh, and he won't take coffee, but he'll gladly take hot cocoa.)

@9 dreads & a Husky? That is McKayla/McKenzie. She is a great kid, but struggling w/ heroin addiction. Have helped ber out several times w/ cash and housing but she has gotten hooked on the "thrill" of her current situation. She is a really talented photographer...hoping that will turn in to a passion/ career when she's ready.
