Hillary Clinton Endorses Marriage Equality

Posted by on Mon, Mar 18, 2013 at 7:51 AM

We will never see another Democratic candidate for president—another viable one—who opposes marriage equality. And Hillary backed marriage equality today because it's the right thing to do for all kids, not just for her kid.

UPDATE: The GOP takes steps to prevent the next Rob Portman...

The decision of Sen. Rob Portman (R-Ohio) to support same-sex marriage after learning that his son was gay has inspired hundreds of other Republican lawmakers to stop speaking to their children immediately, G.O.P. leaders confirmed today.

I'd have thought she had already done so. We really can't be all that far from this type of thing no longer being news-worthy. Which will be nice, as this only gives those righty dirtbags another opportunity and forum to preach their sad "message", whatever it even is.

Let's see one of the many Rmoney or Scalia kids have the guts to come out.

@6 I highly doubt Scalia's gay son will come out, he's made a career of being closeted and showing out gay men back in. http://www.towleroad.com/2012/12/paul_sc…

1. Hundreds? That many republican lawmakers have gay children?
2. Weird to see members the party that supports "Family Values" estranging their own offspring at the merest whiff of political inconvenience.

So is she or isn't she? Is this the first windup for the 2016 race?

A well written speech, and I appreciate it. But... Hillary needs to work on her delivery skills if she wants to run for president. She sounded dryer than Al Gore reading that.

Yeah, she sounded dry when she backed the war in Iraq, too. She should have gotten some tips from Dan. He was so eloquent in his support.

Yay! Now that she did that, she is ready for office !

Yay---Gay! Gotta pander to the "Gay Rights" (whatever that is) crowd...

@14 I know, right? Why not pander to the haters like Republicans do? That wins elections, right?

We may have seen the last or next-to-last viable Republican candidate for president who opposes marriage equality.

That New Yorker story has to be fake. Come on. It sounds like something out of The Onion.

As for Hillary, you know. She got beat to the bandwagon by a *sitting Republican Senator*. I know she couldn't voice her support while she was Secretary of State, but still. The Clintons have never been known to go out on a limb for anything, including marriage equality.

Yeah, the Clintons have never gone out on a limb- except for entering public life, getting lies told about them left and right, facing constant sexist attacks....but you know, whatever.

@7 Thanks for the link.

Next time somebody says there are no homosexuals -just homosexual acts - I'm going to ask if that means there are no heterosexuals, either.

Hillary's one up on 80s radical-folkie Michelle Shocked, who delivered an anti-gay tirade at her show in San Francisco last night, including the Westboro catch-phrase "God Hates Fags", and the news that she "lives in fear that the world will be destroyed if gays are allowed to marry."

If you've never heard of Michelle Shocked, well, now you have. If you're a fan, I'm sorry; her career is deader than a doornail now.

According to Bill, Hillary would often have romantic assignations with other women - even as First Lady.

They were, of course, both despicable for breaking vows of holy matrimony and for being adulterous in the people's house no less.

@24: If you think I'm pathetic because you think I take issue with Hillary's sexuality, you're very wrong.

If you think that I'm pathetic because because of my stance on their conduct while in the White House; then we only share differences in how we define respectable behavior.

I wasn't aware there were any Republican leaders who still spoke to their children. How else could they be two generations behind the rest of the country on every issue?

@18 Just in case you're not kidding, I'm going to guess you've never heard of Andy Borowitz.

@23, @25 First, nobody cares what you think. Second, you're mongering second-hand rumors which, even if they were true, everyone's already heard and nobody cares. As far as the "people's house" goes, I'd think you should worry more about what's going on at the people's House up at the other end of the Mall. Schmekel.

Ooooohhhh, Dano, I thought you loved Hillary ever since she agreed with you and voted for the Bush illegal invasion of Iraq?

Since Hillary was the chair of the MCC (Timmy Geithner, co-chair), when they financed the overthrow of democratically-elected and populist (and highly popular) Zelaya of Honduras, does that mean it's great whenever Uncle Satan overthrows any and all democracies, also, huh, Dano??????

Please respond forthwith, Dano.....

@23,25 - I agree with Fnarf. Really man, this is all you got? Damn. You're like a GOProud caricature.

I get the feeling that your views on what should or should not happen in the Oval Office are like that of GWB - not wearing a suit and tie at all times in the Office is disrespectful to the presidency, but making up shit to go to war with another nation isn't.

Pridge, you ignorant slut.

They didn't "make shit up" as you say. Several nations interpreted intelligence incorrectly, not made it up.

Maybe I am interpreting your sluttiness incorrectly, but I know I have the first part right.

Question for Dan Savage:

What took so long for Hillary Clinton to come out in support of Marriage Equality??? What took so long for Bill and Hillary Clinton to renounce their support for DOMA, which Bill Clinton signed into law in 1996?

I'll take Senator Rob Portman's genuine love for his son over Hillary and Bill Clinton's cynical political expediency any day.
