Does Satan Look Like Obama?

Posted by on Mon, Mar 18, 2013 at 11:56 AM

Apparently, this weekend, some stupid cable channel aired a stupid miniseries based on the Bible. And apparently, a lot of people on Twitter think that the Satan in this miniseries looks a lot like President Obama. Here's video "proof."

And so?

For those of us who voted the last choice. Take Cheer!! I think that the internet will eventually cannibalize itself to be replaced by something far worse..and infinitely more stupid.

Leaving aside this issue, Satan needs to be cast as someone far better looking, or at least with a snake oil salesman look.

I thought the Stranger was the Internet filter. Where else will you find Dan Savage posting pictures of himself holding lawn darts?

Really? No one sees the not even vaguely vealed racism. Satan is black. And he looks like the only black president in our countrys history. And no one has an issue with that?

If there were a Satan, he would have written the bible. Nothing has caused more suffering.

Hey, cat pictures are fine. Cat pictures with a side of mysogyny and homophobia, though, that is the internet that needs to die.

Are there courses on how to avoid panic attacks from losing one's way on the internet? People be freaking out more lately, people who've been around awhile.

# 6 I agree. The History channel is just playing on racial stereotypes. Their target audience is simplistic in nature and can only relate to stereotypes of what 'good' and 'evil' look like. The History Channel probably decided that it was better to be vaguely racist than to challenge or to question the simplistic worldview and mythology of hardcore Christians. Methinks the portrayal is more racist than anti-Obama, but given the intended audience for the series, I expect there is a fair bit of overlap. Shame on the History Channel, but I'm not surprised.

The only depiction of Satan I believe in is Ray Wise. http://www.gorestruly.com/wp-content/upl…

Until I saw them side by side, I admit I kinda thought they looked alike, now not so much. But I'm white and it's called "the race effect.

While some people (even me, on occasion) make jokes about not being able to tell the difference, there is some neurological reasons for this. It isn't born out of racism.

However, this story sure did bring out the racists.

@14:

I see your Ray Wise (who's awesome) and I raise you:

One Viggo Mortensen in The Prophecy
One Peter Stormare in Constantine

They look alike exactly as much as every black person looks alike. They look alike in the same way that I look like George Clooney. We have roughly the same skin color and roughly the same number of eyes, noses and mouths. That's where the similarities end.

Just as long as Satan isn't Al Pacino in The Devil's Advocate. God, that man can chew some scenery.

I'm not so annoyed by satan being black, considering humans began in Africa and whiteness is a dysfunction from after we were evolvedish. My trouble with the History Channel doing a special on the Bible is that the *History* Channel is doing a special on the *Bible* that includes a character of Satan.

I don't watch enough TV to know for sure: do they normally air specials that take mythological characters and treat them as actual historical folks?

@20 When I questioned why this bullshit was on THC I said it was like promoting creationism on The Science Channel. But people said the book of fiction was a part of history. Whatevs.

@20,26,27,

The history channel has some pretty dumb shows, including this bible one.

But to be fair, they've also done other dumb shows on non historical things. The had a series on other religious mythologies too. Stuff on UFOs. Bigfoot.

I think the "history" in The History Channel is somewhat arbitrary.

Mark Burnett & Roma Downey were on The Kudlow Report arguing the show is important for the classroom. Some asinine argument the US will be hurt in business if kids don't learn about David and Goliath. No joke.

I thought the History Channel was the Hitler Channel. Every time I flip through the station and see what's on it's always some show about Hitler's military might during WWII...

Satan has no birth certificate... there is all the proof I need.. they are the same!!! Kenyan spawn of Hell. Call the pope for an exorcist. Satan is in the White House. Oooopps, I just read the Vatican exorcist was really busy with demons in the Popes quarters. Oh well, at least it is better than Republicans in the White House..

The actor who plays Satan isn't even black. (At least, he didn't appear to be black in the one picture I could find of him on Google that isn't this one.) Does he kind of maybe look a little like Obama if you squint and are being told they look alike? I guess. In a world where this Bible show doesn't exist, could they cast this guy as Obama? Probably. It's not a strong enough resemblance to assume it's intentional, but with the right makeup and lighting, sure, he looks a little like Obama (but much older).
