Save the Date: Short Run Is on November 30th at Washington Hall

I'm a big fan of Short Run, the small press festival that has for two years packed hundreds of people into the Vera Project. We just got a press release announcing the details of the next Short Run, and it sounds like our little festival is growing up.

We’re proud to announce the 3rd annual Short Run festival will be held on Saturday, November 30th at the historical Washington Hall in the Central District neighborhood of Seattle. Applications will open in the Spring, and will be announced at shortrun.org, as well as on our Facebook and Twitter pages.

The spectacular stage at Washington Hall will be screening animation throughout the day. The wrap-around balcony will be home to an epic mural outlined by exhibiting artists, and colored in and added to by attendees. Other rooms will host drawing games, live silk screening, workshops, shadow puppet shows, readings, and rock operas. Our decadent bake sale will be accompanied by visiting food trucks, to provide a quick bite for visitors.

After the festival closes, Washington Hall will be transformed into a “Comics Prom,” a 21 + dance party.

Short Run is put on by cartoonists Kelly Froh and Eroyn Franklin. (We just published an overview of Franklin's minicomics work in this week's Stranger.) Along with the organizers of the upcoming APRIL Festival, Froh and Franklin are at the center of a vivacious young community of Seattle-area artists and writers. The small press scene in Seattle is exploding, and you'll be hearing a lot more about Short Run in the months to come.

Good news. Now people may actually be able to see what's on all the tables instead of having to constantly squeeze past other people. It was too popular for the Vera space.
