Don't Say You Weren't Warned

Posted by on Wed, Mar 13, 2013 at 8:59 AM

I wasn't the only one who warned the law-breaking Chambersburg School Board that their vote to block a GSA was illegal and that they'd be hearing from the ACLU. So this shouldn't come as a surprise:

The American Civil Liberties Union of Pennsylvania and Equality Pennsylvania sent a letter today to the Chambersburg Area School District (CASD) on behalf of a group of Chambersburg Area Senior High School students whose request to form a Gay-Straight Alliance (GSA) club was denied by the school board last month. According to the letter, the school board's decision to deny the group status as an official club is a violation of federal law. The letter gives the school district until March 15, 2013, to reverse its decision or face legal action.

The ACLU does so much good for so many LGBT kids all over the country. The ACLU takes discrimination against LGBT kids seriously and they come down like ten tons of shit on school boards that violate the rights of LGBT kids—something school boards used to do with absolute impunity. It can come as a shock to a the members of a school board when they suddenly realize that the LGBT kids in their districts have allies, that some of those allies are lawyers, and that illegal discrimination against LGBT kids means headlines and lawsuits and fines.

Be an ally to LGBT kids: make a donation to the ACLU.

Just last night, my husband and I were talking about the two charities we've donated to recently (Electronic Frontier Foundation and Heifer International) and I said, "The other organization we should be donating to is the ACLU." He agreed. Time to be a card-carrying member again.

First upped with the ACLU in 2004, in despair after W was re-elected. Reupped every year since, and haven't ever regretted it. My favorite charity, by far.

Already got a recurring monthly donation set up. I don't know if I can think of another organization that has done so many things I agree with and (so far as I know) nothing that I disagree with.

The ACLU have been the good guys for a very long time now. I wouldn't want to live in this country if they didn't exist.

@1, careful now, impersonation could be viewed as a sincere form of flattery. I do have to say though, pretty good impersonation. The "gommora..." at the end was a brilliant touch.

Done. And you can sign up for automatic monthly withdrawals of $10 (or more) and you never have to deal with it again.

Donation? Heck, become a member. We need one organization that will defend the constitution regardless of whether they agree with people's politics or not.

Unfortunately, the ACLU support the Citizen's United decision, and filed briefs in favor of the eventual decision.

So, you have to decide which is worse: rampant corporate money in politics, or everything else.

I donate to the ACLU every month, along with AFER, LAMBDA Legal, and the Ali Forney Center. I figure if I'm not willing to get off my butt and do actual work, it's the VERY least I can do.

Speaking of school boards and equal rights, I'll just leave this link here.

In which one pro-christian school board caused the creation of a whole new religion.

but seriously, folks, this is important.

it really wouldn't be fair to utterly destroy a civilization until and unless the younglings of that culture are throughly indoctrinated in perversion from the earliest age;
unless they are taught from the earliest age that black is white, that deviance is normal;
unless they have no chance whatsoever of learning Truth and making informed enlightened choices for themselves...

only then, but always then, must that civilization be utterly wiped out.

just ask Sodom. Gommorah. The Caananites.

getting to the children is key.

displacing their families' values with homoliberal doctrine is crucial.

DONATE!

The End is Near!!

Redouble your efforts!!!

ACLU is one of the organizations I used to give money to that I stopped supporting because of the very annoying mail and email they'd send me. I'm convinced that every dollar I gave them was spent on postage back to me.

Every single message from them would tell my why I should be OUTRAGED! OUTRAGED! by something going on somewhere, and why I should give money as a result of my OUTRAGE!

I would give them money again if there was a box to check for STFU on the form.

BTW, stopping the money did not stop the mail. I don't read it. It goes straight into the trash/shredder.

so why do you think jehovah ordered the israelites to slaughter
every last man woman
and child?

was he a psychopathic genocidal mass murderer?

or had even the children been contaminated with deviant perversion;
social,
psychological
and/or epidemiological;
that would have infected any society that took them in?

you've got to admit, slaughtering the children was pretty harsh.

(for a deity, at least.
sure,
your typical enlightened homoliberal american't democrap
won't blink at slaughtering a million babies a year
but this is The Big Guy we're talking about...)

so what was so terribly wrong
with the canaanite, sodomite and gommorish children?

a little too much GSA, maybe?

@24: Show me anywhere in Scripture where God commands the Israelites to slaughter the people of Sodom and Gomorrah. You won't be able to, because He didn't ANYWHERE in the Bible. And by claiming that He did, you commit blasphemy, attempting to represent your own words as that of the Holy One. Spare me your false piety.
We Jews were forbidden to take up aspects of Canaanite customs to preclude the barbarities of temple prostitutes, human sacrifice, funereal self-mutilation, idol worship, and other such customs considered unclean by our faith.

hey commenter #20, you can very easily and politely request "one membership renewal per year," and they will happily comply! like most membership organizations, the ACLU takes donor engagement very seriously, but i guarantee it doesn't spend your entire donation on postage back to you! what would be the point of that? there is a reason the ACLU has a four-star rating from Charity Navigator (the highest).

@eclexia: Call your state ACLU affiliate and ask them to set it up so you'll only get one or two solicitations a year. I'm a former ACLU staffer. Like most big charities, they send a ton of mail because, taken in aggregate with all their donors across the country, it's effective in raising funds--but if you know your'e going to give without getting all the mail, you can save the organization a bit of funding by reducing the mail you're receiving.

I was there for about six years, left only because I was moving cities, and I'd go back in a heartbeat. It's a great organization, and I can tell you from what I saw that they live their ethics every day, in every aspect of their business.

Meanwhile, back at Denial Central yesterday, Stanley Helman, president of the Chambersburg Area School Board, said "the board is sticking with its decision right now and there aren’t any plans to bring it up again." Good luck with that, Stanley, now that the ACLU's on the case. http://www.herald-mail.com/news/tristate…

oh no....not BLASPHEMY!

threats of BLASPHEMY but the boy who claims his bible condones homosexuality are about as scary as Hello Kitty.

you are, as ever, a pedestrian little turd.

of course The Big Guy handled the hits on Sodom and Gommorah himself.

The question remains, why the smallest youngest children?

could it be that faggotry was one of those customs considered unclean by your faith?

@30: I never said that the Bible condones homosexuality. I said that it doesn't prohibit The Gay.
Where in the Bible does it say that the people of Sodom, Gomorrah, and the various cities of Canaan were gay? Again, you are putting your words in God's mouth.

As this is the school district I attended and one which I live about 20 mins away from now, I can't say I'm surprised at the school board's vote, Franklin County is about as sexually repressed as the Southern Bible Belt and our county is just as red. I am glad that the ACLU is jumping down their throats. My daughter is almost 10 and should she be gay or bi (like her mom), I want her to feel like its ok. We have already told her we will love her no matter what she is or does but to have a GSA group in school to attend, whether she is gay or straight, would mean a lot. We have taught her to be accepting of most people (there are a few, like child molesters, that I will never accept) and to be able to show her support and acceptance of fellow classmates in this backwards, redneck county would be great.
